At what point in lowering the car back to its curb weight position do I reconnect the coupling links to the rear sway bar. I am concerned I might have connected them to early in the downward travel of the car because they seem to have too much pressure on them. Should I just lower the car to resting position and move the sway bar and links into position and tighten?

there will be lots of pressure on them when torsionally stressed, not nearly as much while sitting. easiest way to connect it is to put the rear tires on ramps. not much pressure on the links when the car is resting.

So with the car on stands just slightly lift from under the hub until the lower bolt hole for the shock absorber and the sway bar linked are lined up. I usually use a very short wrench to get the bolt started to make sure that it doesn't get stripped.

as John said - put a jack under the trailing arm/shock/link bolt location and simply line it up. Bolt in lower first and then upper. Just did these a couple weeks ago.
