Reliability?

I would like to hear from some people with TT's both Modded and without Mods as to the reliability of their TT's. I mean issues like starting everyday and getting stuck on the road...I had an Acura CL 36,000...never had a problem...RX-7 No problems for 125,000 , even my Camaro was fairly trouble free......What do you all consider a lack of reliability..Give examples .I have not heard that from owners that I know personally. Could this be a thing more related to harder driving 225's and modded cars or is this the average TT that comes off the line that fails consistently. This is a very scary thought for such money !I have a 2000 FWD 180 coupe. I bought used with 21,000 and now have 40,000 I don't race, drive like a madman although I certainly enjoy the handling and speed and the beauty....so far only a broken clamp on a fuel line(caused from a replaced filter job) and a CEL on delivery week, which stopped after I was told not to fill up while running...Do I have a hard future ahead? OUCH !

you're OK. However, I'd say you're on your way to expensive maintenance out of warranty though. The dealer wanted $2000 for my 60K service and timing belt service. I got an independent to do it for half. That's all I'd really worry about. I still have my original brakes in front with 50% on them. Just replaced the original rears and rotors. Dealer would have raped me on those too. Independent only added $212 to my above costs. All that for $1212.00.

I still can't get over the $660 I paid for what they called 60K service on my car w/o timing belt ofcourse.
I'll think more than twice next time to go to the dealer unless it's a recall/warranty issue.

Car has had ESP retrofit, seen many track sessions and only issues were the replacement of a couple of faulty guages. It has run flawlessly otherwise. Consider it as you would a VW.

Read the warranty manual. My VW stated to contact the selling dealer and if they will not work with you to contact VWOA and they may indeed cover the parts/service. VW has done just that with my van and I expect AOA may do the same with my TT. Sometimes it pays to work with your selling dealer if possible. Realize that if an alternate independant shop dismantles something like your transmission and it fails you may indeed foot the entire repair bill. Most service departments upon noticeing the engine or tranny has been "cracked" will assume no liability. A small upcharge may be worthwhile in the long run.

I have an aftermarket bumper to bumper warranty....but I find, as you do, that my own mechanic does better and cheaper work, gets the Audi parts cheaper too...if he can't fix something he asks to take it to a reputable and known dealer, that knows his work, and it is cheaper because he sent it there, not me ! So far a bad dealer or two has tried to rip me for getting my radio code and for putting in a broken set of fuel lines....my mechanic did it cheaper but RUBBER is not covered on warranty so it was about $200+. after towing twice , first to the dealer(dumb play) and then to my guy. Towing was reimbursed on insurance....car rental NOT! My guy would have given me a loaner if I 'd have brought it to him first, before rental....took 2 days to fix...dealer said TWO WEEKS...
