Default I did, and it is possible.. but why would that happen to other owners then?

Also, don't forget that the mod only involves moving the mechanical parts around. The wiring stays absolutely untouched. Besides, they were working great for a long while after doing the "mod"..

Very true. Maybe (guess) the remote needs to be reprogrammed or something to that affect:-)

Yup, did that (as remote also lost programming) but the trunk/gas buttons still randomly fail..

Default I've had the same problem. Dealer says

"cannot duplicate." Just make sure you know how to get to the gas release and hatch release.

No, I did not have any problem after the button swap. And, as you said, you only swapped mechanical parts, no wiring was involved.

Have you had a look with Vag-Com in the module "Central Locking", you may find DTCs there, or check that pressing a button on the remote sets the right flag in the Central Locking module.
