Default This might be dumb, but how can you get the right torque

specs with that tool, or it doesn't really matter?

Default There are many cases where it is damn near impossible to get a torque wrench on a bolt. There are

...also some bolts that are not as critical as others when tightening. Rod bolts have to be spot on but a 10mm bolt that holds your horn on does not. I have developed a good feel for bolt torque; you can practice with a torque wrench and a lever arm of the same length. BTW many shops do not use torque wrenches in many situations, I know because I was a Honda Mechanic many years ago. There also is some common sense here, the smaller the bolt the less you tighten it, I would say many guys over torque on the theory that if a little is good more is better. It is maddening to work on a vehicle that has a bunch of over tightened bolts!!! If you can get a torque wrench on a bolt do it if not you must get close by feel. JIM
