Default repost: Tsunami Relief and Donations.

I'd just like to post again regarding Tsunami relief. My posting is multi-fold, in case you know others who need information as to where to send money and/or what to do. Sometimes we tend to forget about things when we get busy and/or get overexposed to something on the news.

As you may or may not know, 100,000+ have no been confirmed dead. Millions are homeless. And Millions are facing huge infectious epidemics in the next few days, weeks, and months. No donation is too small, no donation is ineffective.

It's also been shown that roughly 30-40% of the deaths are: CHILDREN

here are some organizations which are already working there and are proven to be effective:

<a href="http://www.americares.org">Americares.org</a>
<a href="http://www.savethechildren.org">Savethechildren.org</a>
<a href="http://www.unicef.org">Unicef.org</a>
<a href="http://www.worldvision.org">Worldvision.org</a>

if you have others. feel free to share them. there are MANY organizations to choose from. There are also various Christian and Islamic organizations as well, if you should so please. Please spread the message to others as well.

cheers/love

Default most of the ones i listed above are secular.

there are many more organizations which ARE religious and are affiliated directly to Christian and/or Islamic faiths...but i've listed ones which are quite neutral.

cheers!

Default how so?

by secular, i mean not affiliated to religious organizations. organizations such as Save the Children, and UNICEF are not directly part of religious affairs....they may have the support of various religious organizations, but that's mostly to them sharing a simliar goal.

However there are plenty of other organizations for one to choose from:<ul><li><a href="http://www.networkforgood.org/topics/international/earthquake/tsunami122604.aspx">http://www.networkforgood.org/topics/international/earthquake/tsunami122604.aspx</a></li></ul>

Default Yeah, but it took me 15 minutes to find out that World Vision was Christian...

I don't want to send any money to any organization that's going to preach to people, or say that relief came their way from some religion or another.

That's not cool at all. I'd like to help some people out, but I don't want to help a religious organization cram stuff down their throats in the process.

Default Chris...the emergency of this situation is causing..

most of the funds being donated to be clumped together anyway.

i do agree with you, i don't wanna give to an organization which will use the funds for missionary purposes either, however right now most of the funds are DIRECTLY going to the places which need it and i think the immediate goal is simply to salvage anything that can be salvaged and to prevent disease in the upcoming times.

but i agree with you on many levels, and there ARE many other charities you can look for who aren't affiliated. UNICEF, as i mentioned is very independent...and very respectable.

cheers man. have a good New Year's!
