Default Don't unplug the battery...just unplug the ECU.

IF you unplug the battery, then you have to reset the radio. Unpliugging the ECU is easier IMO.

Default Here is a pdf on how to remove the ECU . . .

Just don't actually remove the ECU, just unplug it . . .

Default It is underneath the cowel at the bottom of the windfshield on the passenger side.

You have to pull up the rubber seal and then pull up the cowell. The cowell has a U-channel that press fits onto a lip that runs around the front of the cowel. From the passenger side, The ECU sits back and to the right of the air filter compartment if you're facing the front of the car. There are two clipped wiring harnesses that plug into the ECU. You have to pull those clips out to the side and then the plug just pulls out of the socket. The clip on the left one pulls left and the clip on the right one pulls to the right. It sounds aa lot harder to do than it is.

Default Not completely. Unplugging the battery also throws codes

and could possibly harm the cars electronics. Been told this by a few different dealers and Audi mechanics.

It is only a few minute job to disconnect the ECU cables. They can be disconnected for 30 seconds and then reconnected.
