K&N filter alone will rob you. You'll be suckin hot air with it. You need a TTDA

Default The K&N can be bad for TTs...

People disagree about this issue, but many people believe that the K&N's oiled filter element fouls the airflow sensor in the 1.8T engines. Thus, it might not be a good addition (and the gains might be negligible anyway).

I can see that about the K&N cone. That theory doesn't apply to the K&N panel filter though.

Default Not with a drop-in filter in the stock box...

as Mx-5 says.

The K & N probably won't gain you anything by itself, but shouldn't affect the MAF unless it is over-oiled. Since they come pre-oiled, nothing should go wrong until you have to clean it and re-oil which isn't until 50K miles, or somewhat less depending on your conditions.

Some claim that the better breathing of the K & N will take care of a problem some have expreienced, where your motor will buck/bog down very briefly in hot weather, at very low speeds, and large throttle inputs, becasue the compressor briefly can't get enough flow.

About the K&N - what RedRoadster says.

Default I wipe mine down with a paper towel before installing

just in case it's over oiled from the factory. As for a cone, seems like the airbox is car enough away from the turbo to be effective. Especially with a good heat shield. Even effective, they don't give much power, just a cool sound.

Default twin tube dynamic airbox - Seach it...

you'll find lots. It replaces your stock airbox, and is designed to increase flow efficiency, and pull in cooler air because it uses two pickup oint, not ine, and they're relocated. The box itself has a K & N cone element in it for filtration.
