Default REVO Screech

Yes, I know, there's about 3 pages worth of posts on this topic. I just got a trial version from SSI in Towson, MD (had my 60k maint there). And sure enough, right around 4500 RPM I get this high pitched whistle-like screech. Did anyone conclude what the cause of this was? I can't find it anywhere. SSI thinks it could be a boost leak that was always there, but the REVO program just made it more apparent. I don't have a boost gauge, but I'm not feeling any loss. I do have a Forge 007 valve. I don't know enough about my car yet, but based on what I've read, it seems like the intake box just isn't designed for that kind of air flow. My intuition tells me that the REVO program is simply requiring the turbo to intake more air (I have a K&N drop in... probably need to clean it) and that box along with the diameter of the hose is either resonating at some frequency that was never anticipated by Audi, or the connection between the box and the hose is actually leaking (somewhere along the way). If anyone found a solution, I'd really like to know. I love the power my car has, but that sound is not overly comforting (I mean, it can sound kinda cool at times, but I know my car isn't liking it).

Default A better flowing airbox...>>

Is a good mod, regardless. My TTDA has been known to reduce this problem...

Default Hey Steve, got a quick question for you (sorry for the hijack)

with your new lathe, think you can fashion a velocity stack?

Default The feedback from Dani (bluheaven) was that

in an 03 TT 225, the revo programming provides way too much boost. Once the boost is dialed back to an acceptable range, the screech is gone.

I'm not sure what the sps3 settings that dani used are, I've emailed her.

Do you have a boost gauge? My 03 boosts to 29psi under WOT in 5th gear during the screech, and settles to 21psi after the screech subsides.

And I know what you mean about the sound not being overly comforting. I've considered using other software (GIAC, etc) but now that I know what needs to be done, I'll work with Revo and my tuner to resolve it.

Default I had mentioned I had a similar sound at WOT

I think it was a combination of a dirty K&N filter in my original CF TTDA and restricted MAF housing. I had my metal screen in the OE MAF and that had some crud on it too.

All I know is now with the latest generation TTDA and the ****, it no longer makes this sound.

Sounded like it was wheezing or something before.

Default I doubt it...>>

That requires cutting tapers, and I won't have that fixture. Plus, that's a LOT of work...Most of those are either extruded or CNC's....Not done by hand. Sorry Gary! BTW Gokart3 (Brad) has an S2000 too. He's been playing. YOu might want to get in touch!

Default Darn it...

wanted to make something for the S2K. I'll definitely have to check in with Brad. It's been a while since I spoke to him anyhow. Figured if he can have an S, so can I.

Default Same issue and tried everything to fix it (intake hose, TTDA, maf screens...)

and finally put a boost gauge in and found that I was boosting way over 25psi (more like 28-29!!)

The screech always started at about 23psi and didn't go away till I dropped back down to normal levels.

I had to find someone with an Revo SPS3 and have them turn the boost down. Mine is set at Low Boost 3 and Timing 4 and boosts between 14 and 18psi depending on gear, load, throttle etc. And has NO screech at all now.

You might be able to get away with something like Low Boost 4 or 5... every car is different... dial it up or down until its just right for you.

Default Re: Same issue and tried everything to fix it (intake hose, TTDA, maf screens...)

Okay, if I purchase the full version (still in Trial mode, so there isn't any tuning involved that I know of) I'll ask to have th boost cut back. I guess I should keep the revs lower while in trial mode... don't want any hoses coming loose. I'll try TTschwing's intake at some point, but for now I need to focus on new plugs, a new belt tensioner, new timing belt, new CV boot, new serpentine belt, and new water pump. All of which aren't covered under Audi's wonderful extended warranty (the boot isn't covered unless the joint fails... the belt isn't covered until it actually fails, the etc, etc, etc isn't covered until it fails. I have no idea why I paid for the Audi Assured warranty).
