Default Is it risky to buy a used ECU that has been chipped?

found one and just wondering if its too risky to by a used chipped ECU

my 2001 TTR had the immobilizer you will need to have ecu reprogrammed

Stealership is the only place that can do that right?

APR provides shareware to do this, assuming their chip..

Default Not all 2001s need to be cloned.

If you have an early 2001 without the immobilizer, and the chipped ECU you are buying is the same (no immobilizer) then it's simply a plug and play swap.

Default Is there any easy way to tell if it has an immobilizer or not? Not sure if I have it

or the other ECU for that fact

Default If you have the immobilizer

you'll see a small icon in the cluster light up when you start the car. I believe it's a little car shape with a key cutout underneath it. You should be able to find out what ECU part #s have the immobilizer but I don't know which ones do off hand. I know MY2001 225hp coupes that are either T or AT boxes do not have the immobilizer and are compatible, not sure what the 180 TTRs have tho.
