Roadster rear windscreen problem

Roadster rear windscreen problem
I'm having a problem with the rear windscreen in my 2003 TTR and I wanted to check if anyone had any suggestions before I let the dealer tear in and replace the windscreen motor.
Here are the symptoms:
- The console switch will raise the windscreen, but not lower it.
- Putting the top up always lowers the windscreen (automatically) if it is up.
I've already replaced the console switch for the windscreen, and the symptoms persist. Is there something else I should be looking at before I let them go through with the motor replacement? I would have guessed if the motor was the problem, it wouldn't go down when the top was put up either.

Weird, motor seems to work fine. What happens if you raise it part way....
I think you can do that, and then try to lower it. I wonder if there is some sort of rear switch that tells the front switch it's up.

Yep, tried that- doesn't work even when only partially raised, either
I did try that- the console switch has no effect on lowering the windscreen, even if it has only been partially raised.
I believe the windscreen is "one touch down". Any idea where that is controlled, or is it at the motor?

been there done that with TT #2...
they replaced the console switch. The problem was still there.
Then they replaced the window motor. Problem was still there. Finally they gave up and replaced the entire thing.
My car was under warranty at the time and it cost $1200 in parts and labor.
Convenient problem solving there. Obviously it seems to be something that is related to the electrical wiring because it goes down when you try to put the top up. I doubt there is anything wrong with the window motor.
I believe this began when rain starting pouring and I had to run to put the top. I wish my experience was more helpful in solving your problem

Since it wasn't the motor or the switch...
Did the "whole thing" include the wiring harnesses or a controller?
I'm under CPO for another year... But I just dread the thought of my dealer tearing the whole thing down to do the motor replacement.

they have no choice but to do a tear down. It's not as bad as you think though.
The dealership, to save time on the labor, will not waste time doing just the motor since it's not something techs have a lot of experience doing and it's really not a common problem.
They will replace the entire assembly since it comes as one piece.
If you are cpo, take it to them, have them replace and forget about it.
