Is the roughnesss affected by how low you have the coilovers?
I have mine set really low, and the ride is pretty rough on sharper bumps.

the spring rate hasn't changed, and with a coil-over front spring, a lower ride height actually increases front spring travel because the bottom spring perch is lower. similarly in the rear, when the ride height is lower, the perch is at its smallest size, which allows for full spring travel. you'll hit the bump stops and/or rub the fender liners more often if the car is really low, but ride quality shouldn't change with height (provided the dampers are valved for the springs).

Everything gets pretty harsh when you exceed the normal shock travel and get into the rubber snubbers..
When you start dropping 2 inches, for instance, and the shock travel is only 3"-3.5" you get into the bump stops pretty quickly. Bilsteins use internal stops, Konis are external like on the right..At that point the shock is doing nothing but transmitting shock loads right to the chassis at a much higher effective "spring rate" with little to no real damping going on....Result is serious harshness.

to their travel before the bump stop is contacted. H&R c/o's use Bilsteins and the front Bilsteins have internal bumpstops. The lower the static height, the less travel before the shock hits it's stop. Too low and you're into the stop all the time. It's function is similar to another spring, they're sometimes called secondary springs. As the stop compresses, your spring rate increases rapidly. This causes the ride harshness.

Much more than an inch and you start compromising a lot of things..
