Default RPM needle dancing

On idle, my RPM needle sometimes plays but not over 1000 rpm and I hear the engine throttling a little. I read that it was a spark plug change. Would it not be the MAF?

Default you need actual troubleshooting....

someone with training, a service manual, and a VAG factory service tool.

i.e. take it somewhere.

check for vac leaks. Could be a lot of things. My old A4 had it for 4 years and I didn't mind it.

Default Is your NEEDLE dancing, or are your RPM's dancing? If it's just the needle, that's an early warning

sign of impending cluster failure... At least, it was for me.

Let us know how you get on as I am thinking of changing my MAF for the very same reason. How has your fuel consumption been?

Regards

Default Buy it a drink and see if it'll dance with you.

Har har...

Is the RPM needle moving around fairly wildly, or are your RPM fluctuating?

Default Had same problem, changed MAF, coils plugs and had a vacum leak--->>

now it run great. I had done a APR chip at waterfest11 and raced my car immediatly and noticed that the car was not running as well compared to my spring races on the 1/4 mile. I thought that the the hot weather had much to do with poor times so I didn't bother with it. after a year of running the car with less power I got a CEL. I bought MAF which I did myself, but that did not clear the CEL. So i took it to a shop to do plugs and coils. That cleared some of the codes, but one remained. Shop found a vacum leak and fixed it. No CEL and no dancing needles. Now car is pulling strong and running great. Found a new love in My TT.

Default possibly, but...

i actually know a couple dealer techs who know what they are doing with regards to troubleshooting. these guys are in my cell phone and have helped me out of numerous jams.

they call me with their questions about "old school" Audis, so we stay even.
