Drove down to DC over fourth of july weekend. Was driving back to the hotel in DC from a Maryland Crab eating fest at Cantler's in Annapolis when suddenly I get a CEL!
I'm thinking my car runs perfect, plugs and coilpacks were changed about 10K miles ago as well as MAF. What oh what could it be?
I made an appointment to get my oil changed this weekend and have the codes scanned at my local shop.
I stop by station to put in some gas and realize my gas cap is missing! I go through the events of the past few days in my head. I had my gas filled at full service station. Went to Cantler's. On way back car threw a CEL. I'm pretty sure the ahole who filled up my gas forgot to put the cap back on.
I'm also pretty sure the CEL is a result of the missing gas cap. I guess I'll know for sure in a few days, but in the meantime, with gas prices being what it is and any not wanting to lose even the most miniscule amount of gas vapors, I went to local autoparts store and purchased a replacement.
There isn't anything special about OEM cap is there? Also, assuming the CEL was thrown because of missing gas cap, will the CEL go out by itself or will the code still have to be cleared manually?
