Default 1/2 the stopping distance is very cool. Presumably it doesn't require much power,

so maybe it won't be a complete disaster if the alternator fails?

Default I think the technology is interesting, but I'm skeptical of the claims...

half the stopping distance of traditional brakes? That has to be improvements in the abs. Tires are usually what limits the stopping distance. I've yet to own a car that I couldn't lock up the tires by stomping the pedal. Without ABS you'd be threshold braking and once again at the mercy of the tires. I notice they mention different materials for the components, but that wouldn't be an accurate test with 2 different pad materials. I don't see how this new system would address fade otherwise.

battery supplies most of the power anyway.

I can't wait to see the "brake chips" at APR.

Default Well, we have electronic power steering----Why not this?

It does seem that the 1/2 stopping distance is a bit of overstatement. The tires coefficient of friction will remain the same. However if this technology allows the brake to apply constant torque at the tires threshold, rather than pulsing on and off as slip is detected, well---- who knows?
I bet you there is a cost savings involved too.

Wonder how you bleed them? :-)

Default Haven't read it yet, but possibly through finer electronic control.

Better individual control of each wheel, and the ability to sense fade & compensate appropriately. Though that would just push out the potentially catastrophic brake loss.

& I wholly agree about the tires. Stickier tires are almost always the best way to improve braking.
