Default And, like, there's something wrong with that??? :-) Seriously, this is probably why I don't...

...own a VCR, have never been to a video store, and can't remember the last movie that I saw in a theater that didn't have "Star Trek" in the title.....

Default I agree with you about where and how racing should be done.

I'm no advocate of street racing by any means. I just think it's a cop out to see that a movie about street racing comes along and people want to blame the movie and it's makers for being irresponsible and negligent because the movie induces people to street race. I reject that. The movie is a farsical reflection and the only fault for accidents and mayhem on the streets lies with the racers themselves. Case closed IMO.

Default Equally opinionated response to above rant...

Is there a parallel to be made between this and natural vs. steroid-enhanced bodybuilding?

Meaning, the results or ends of an action are more important than the means of achieving said result and the potential costs. People use steroids to enhance what their bodies are capable of in the natural (un-enhanced) state, and potentially suffer great health risks in doing so. Seems like some perverse decision making process that is fairly wide-spread in society (hard drug-use, crime, etc...) in which a potentially pleasurable outcome completely outweighs the costs and obliviates the satisfaction derived from a course founded in discipline.

Gratification on an ellipsed and treacherous time-line....

just my $.02

Default Kids envy this because because they are steeped in this culture long before (if) they...

...see it on the silver screen. Chaka's got it right.

It's been going on long before this movie was thought up, but it won't help things at all.

Default Yeah, I don't know what the societal impact of this movie is going to be,

I was just responding to Chaka's analogy, albeit with maybe a little too much enthusiasm, no offense intended.

Default i'd love to see cigarette stats. how many kids started smoking since advertisements glamorized it?

it's one thing to see friends smoking and imitate them. but the image of a beautiful person living a beautiful life with a cigarette hanging out of their mouth is even more potent. (the ciggie companies didn't waste their money on advertising.)

so same thing with racing. yes, people have been racing ever since cars came on the scene, but glamorize it in the movies and that takes it to a new level. i have no doubt it will increase the participation.

You deprived yourself of "Being John Malkovich"?
