My 2001 TTQR started to get the message 'Service in 1,000 miles' along with the Malfunction light staying on (not blinking). The car has 19k miles on it. I have checked the obvious gas cap not being tightened. TIA.

Default You'll have to scan the DTC for the MIL/CEL.
The service indicator is normal, although it could be wrong if the dealer didn't reset it last time you were in.
