Default Serious problem - any ideas, cost estimates, reasons?

Less than 5 years into the life of the car, this really shouldn't happen. I was parked, put it in reverse, heard a noise, checked my wheel and saw this. I have NO idea why or how this happened... it looks like part of the suspension broke right off.

Anyone have any ideas how or why this might happen? Anyone know the ramifications of this sort of injury? Anyone know a good mechanic in the DC metro area?

Detailed pictures and descriptions of the issue

Default This was a recall issue for certain cars...>

Did you get a notice? Your dealer should be well aware of it and install the upgraded control arms. Corrosion caused some to weaken and snap. There should be a recall bulletin on this. A few on here have had this happen. Glad it didn't break when you were moving! The fluid is from the differential as the spline was probably pulled out of it's seal.

How would I have heard about this recall, and should this have been checked by the dealer when I was in getting maintenance 4000 miles ago? I recieved no notice in the mail, but used to get the magazine at home from audi, so I know they have my address.

This is a 2000 180Q, though you can probably tell by looking at it (no spoiler, single exhaust, quattro badge)

Default Depends on if...>

You were the original owner, and the car fell into the recall range. No to either would mean you would not be notified. Make sure your dealer Knows YOU KNOW about this issue..

They'll be receiving a call from me this afternoon. They were already on my bad side... this doesn't help.

Default Thanks again...>>

I just found this URL... apparently there are 3 recalls on this car. NONE of these issues have been taken care of, nor was I aware of the recalls.

http://www.autoweb.lycos.com/content/own/service/index.cfm/action/RecallsView/seriesid/16684</a

Most people will tell you not to do the middle recall on that list...
