Shocks making a noise

Shocks making a noise
I've noticed recently that when I go over small bumps, I hear (out the driver's window) a short burst of air coming from under the car. Is this the sound of the shock absorbers? Is this normal? Any help or advice is appreciated.
The length of this "air" sound is only about a quarter second and only happens when encountering a bump in the road. 2000 180FWD with 17,000 miles.
