Default simple exhaust question (revised)

Is this optimal, or are the two pipes robbing HP via backpressure loss:

Thanks!

Default You could try something "completely different"...

I already have one on my 18 wheeler. It does rock, but I want something different for the TT! ;P

Default I don't know about the two pipes but backpressure isn't supposed to be an issue for turbo'd cars

Free flow and ease of spool/rev is supposed to be more important.

There has to be some backpressure though...

I'm reading online that if the Turbo is less than 2.2L, backpressure is a factor with true duals.

Default That was work in progress. I have since added glasspacks on each side, but I'm still experimenting

with one side.

I did AutoX with this setup though. It was loud, but spectators said it sounded like the 996 turbo on straight pipes (also a competitor).

While nowhere near as fast this setup is quick; meaning, my turbo spools pretty quick. Those who have driven my car, including chipped GTI's, or A4 owners or stage 3 A4 owners, can't believe how fast the electronic boost needle rises up to 1.5 kg-cm (~22 psi) and stays there.

There is most likely backpressure which will limit top end hp if I used a boost controller, a single pipe downpipe and a single HF cat. But right now, I have a fairly conservative chip (MTM gen II made in 2001), and it is running full close loop meaning my top end power is load dictated (via the chip), so the entire system can't pass 210 g/s, and ~60% duty cycle at high RPM. Nevertheless, my tourque curve is probably as flat as a tuned VR6 motor as indicated by the boost gauge that goes up fast and stays flat for a long time. That's pretty much what I was after for AutoX.

Speaking of VR6, have you heard an R32 exhaust with moderate acceleration? Mine, with the glasspacks, make the same note on mid to high RPM's, as long as I am not on boost. Boost, everything sounds like high pressured air from intake to exhaust, but it still makes the dual tone rumble.
