on the road. The Blizzak ice tires are amazing, but will chunk when driven above 50mph for extended lengths of time on the highway.
What you need is a snow tire most likely. Where do you live?
I used my Nokian NRW's on a frozen lake last winter for an ice race and they worked great!![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

I used Nokian (formerly known as Nokia) Hakkapeliitta NR-10s for years on
my Miata, great snow tires. Last season, I got the new Nokian Hakka 1s,
which are also great. Both are a bit on the noisy side at road speeds, but are
about as good as it gets in the snow. Both are studdable tires, but can be
bought without studs if you don't need or want them.
This time around, I got the Hakka Qs for the TT - the Q series is a non-studdable tire, and seems to be a better bet than the Hakka 1 if you aren't
going to add the studs anyway. Reviews and comparison tests sounds pretty
good, but haven't had a chance to try 'em yet. I got mine from etires.com,
but some local tire shops stock them too.
Will report results when the snow arrives :-)
The NRWs are more of an "all-season" tire - quieter driving noise
than the true winter tires, but they're still quite a capable tire in the winter.
But I figure if I'm switching to special tires for winter only, might as well
go for the best performance I can get - I really don't want any smashed
bodywork if I can avoid it! But the NRW might be a good compromise if
you drive a lot of highway-speed miles and spend most of your time on
plowed roads (as most of us do nowadays). Depends on where live, what
kind of driving you expect to do, and where you want to make your tradeoffs...
Nokian isn't available from Tire Rack (dunno why, but they seem to stick to the
bigger name high volume producers), but you can get them elsewhere (see etires.com or check for sources on the Nokian web site). They're not the
cheapest tire, but they won't let you down!

http://www.nokiantires.com</a
