So aren't our radios supposed to into safe mode when battery is disconnected?

Finally had to change the battery on my '01
last night - took a couple hours due to several
mishaps (a dropped screw and a battery that was
a bit short), but when I got it back going, the
radio was fine. I've actually never seen it go into
safe mode. Ditto on the S4 whose battery I replaced
a couple months back.
When does it go into safe mode, then?

I disconnected my battery to get to my fan module. When i reconnected it, my radio was on "safe mode." Maybe it was because the battery was fully disconnected for an extended period of time? I was pissed my windows lost the auto up/down function, but i read the manual and reprogrammed them again. Also found out how to adjust the date/time!

Kinda funny that neither car would have it done, but given the ability of my Audi dealers, not terribly surprising....

Not sure but perhaps it when its removed from the vehicle.
Personally I was glad it didnt' do it. One less thing to figure out how to fix.
