Default So I need a new Haldex Pump >>

My rear end has been leaking oil for a while. (the car, not my butt haha) I noticed it when I changed the oil for the first time last winter. The whole rear end was saturated and I couldn't find the source. Fast forward to this spring - a drip a day in the driveway. I install my coilovers and am under the car repeatedly. I notice the rear again saturated in oil. So, I got my 3" DP built and control arms installed about a month ago. Still leaking, so I researched a bit and decided this was over my head.

I took the car to a trusted friend who works at Criswell Audi in Annapolis MD. Went in the front door asking for alignment, oil change, headlight aiming, and to check out the rear end leak. My friend calls me later on today and says the leak looks bad and it's not any of the normal spots. He cleaned the whole rear end off and covered it in a powder which reveals leaks. After a decent drive and some more research he calls to say it's the pump. Apparantly it is leaking internally and causing oil to leak out.

$600 something dealer price for the pump plus labor. I can get the pump through my VW parts account for around $490, but I don't know if they will be able to get it fast enough. I'll probably just have my friend take care of it. I took the car in the front so he would get paid well. I respect his work and wasn't looking for a discount or anything.

Have any of you guys had an issue with a bad hydraulic pump? Does $600 sound reasonable. Honestly coming from an industrial background I think a $600 hydraulic pump is pretty cheap. I guess I'll get the Haldex filter and fluid change out of this

Any experiences feel free to post up!

Evan

Default Considering a haldex fluid change goes for about $300 at the dealer its not too big of a hit. hope..

you dont get slammed with alot of labor fees.
good luck to you.

Default sorry to TJ: but are there any other cat options aside from the 400? cell that

you are working with, in your DP project?

I am watching w/ interest.

On topic: the price appears to be reasonable.

Default I'm having a hard time picturing this..>>

The pumps on the Haldex system are internal. There is a high pressure circuit that is routed through a valve in the controller though. The entire controller relys on a gasket for fluid integrity....

You can see the high pressure ports plugged here. Gasket is on right.

The actual pumps are 7 and 8 in this picture I believe...(sorry about the Furran language!)
