Default Some things a friend of mine made for his TT: 80mm SS MAF housing, SS Airbox with APEXi filter etc.

This is his airbox and all necessary connections made from stainless steel. He got the idea from the TTDA Steve Schwing makes, but used an APEXi filter instead of the K&N. At first he used the twin tube design, then he decided to leave it open from that side since the engine sounds very throaty this way. No heat insulation is used inside the tube at this stage.

This is his 80mm MAF housing, again from stainless steel.

Finally, this is the piping he made for the dv relocation. He decided not to use Samco hoses but a stainless steel tube that doesn't dilate. The dv is from Dahlback. A similar tube is used on the other side of the engine, leading to the 1st i/c.

In case you wonder, he has a factory that makes aluminum and stainless steel drain pipes, thus can use all his own equipment to make these things during his free time. These are just some of the pics he sent me, I'll try to get a pic of the entire engine bay since he has also polished the stock pressure pipe of the 225 and is planning on polishing the valve cover as well.

Nice tubing. Shots not so close-in would be better. Intake side is open to the engine heat? hmmmmm

Default What sort of stainless does not dialate? O_o

Also, a metal housing around an air filter without any insulation is probably worse for performance than the stock box.

In any case, it all *looks* very nice.

Default Sounds like your friend has been thinking like I have............

I had 3 SS MAF assemblies made and then got 2 offers I couldn't refuse and then traded one + $$'s for an ABT rear spoiler.

I've got an endless access to aluminum thin wall tubes in the diameter and length of the BAMM. (Aluminum foils for wrapping candy comes on big rolls wrapped around the tube.) We throw them away by the hundreds. I plan to try my hand at a BAMM. I like the lightness of the aluminum.

I installed the larger Dahlback manifold and already had the Samco with the DV relo kit. It would not work well with the Samco. With the Dahlback, the inlet to the TB is horizontally only a couple inches away from the other pipe below the battery. I got a fabricator at work to make me a new SS pipe with built in taps for my DV and my N75 valve.

I plan to do a solid ss pipe over on the inlet upper side of the FMIC.

See my picture poster.

Default My first post..........

This is my first post, the pics that NikosS3 posted are from my engine bay.
Just a few words, I had made a TTDA (Swchings) i must admit i had positive results although i noticed that a simple air filter was not giving all the air it should, which lead me to a new design the one in the pic.
There is more air passing through the filter, as there is a larger opening at the entrance, with absolutly no heat problems what so ever.
Even when pushing the engine hard and with temperatures rising sky high.
Cause of the aluminum wall thinkness on the outside its warm but not in the inner wall, lets not forget the filter plays a very important role in this, ive tried several filters, Apexi has to be the best one yet.

Default So the airbox itself is aluminum, not stainless, correct?

Also, I'm still curious: Stainless that does not expand when hot? Do tell! I want some...

I had him make the same BAMM for me as well. Looks great, have yet to do some logging with VAG-COM.

Actually all metals expand some more others less, this all depends on the type of metal each of us will use ex:gauge size, specification of use, mixture type, temperature force ect. ect. ect.
There are also metals which dont expand which are used in specific areas and machinery, lets not go there as there not needed for these type of fabrications plus the cost $$$$ is unbeleivable expensive.
I chose aluminum with a thick gauge to be able to take the heat and its easier to work with. I used stainless for the MAF cause i had bits and pieces on the side, but im please anyway with the result, i now working on my aluminum MAF witch should be ready soon.
Big thanks to Mr. Swching as he is the person that gave birth to these items to be fabricated.
