Default The first time I layed my eyes on the B5, I knew right there that was my next car. Not this one.

I bought an A4 soon after. This one will grow on me, but not to own if I was looking for a sedan.

Default Why not? AM and Jaguar have been doing great since Ford bought them.

Maybe Audi would be better served if VW didn't own them.

Default Ford is good on pickups, not cars. >>

Jaguar has come down in quality as in sales in the US, check the sales ratings and you'll see.

http://www.phillyburbs.com/pb-dyn/news/24-09182004-368029.html

They are cutting back their production in 15K units this year. Also, they are pulling out of F1 (div for sale), meaning their sporty R&amp;D division is closing down. I would say expect a Jaguar X-Taurus from them. I'm not saying they are not good cars, I have to admit they are decent cars for the masses, nothing wrong with it, but the Jaguar sporty-luxury legacy will be going down the drain. Also, I don't think I would be happy paying Jaguar $$ and see Ford quality parts under the hood.<ul><li><a href="http://www.phillyburbs.com/pb-dyn/news/24-09182004-368029.html">Clicky</a></li></ul>

Default Shoeboxes in Heat'....we are at the nexus of a significant design divergence....

...this is happening not only with cars but with art as well.

The retro inspirations that art noveau has been to the pop culture (cars, furniture, clothes etc) recently are now creating the need for design divergence...in essence...a 'futures' way out from the old...

...unfortunately the last time we went thru this in the 70s the results were limited to truncations...again we have the same...

...unfortunately...with that, one significant player in car design, Chris Bangle has made a significant impression or should I say dent on Japanese car design that has created an inertia around the "truncated tube".

...I do not favor this and I would suspect most of you would agree...

Bangle design instincts stink...insult the human senses with bio-based curves that are 'cut off at the knee'.

Look at the BMW 5 series it looks like a shoebox in 'heat' from the rear (with the lid curled-up)

...that is why you bought a retro TT. Many other car designs after the TT have been retro styled and this will continue...

...unfortunately Audi has followed the path that BMW has taken without the boo-boo genius of Chris Bangle (that he is a boo-boo genius... redoing the 70s is a boo-boo, a mistake that any ordinary child can make while his parents gloat at the accomplishment yet it speaks to the hidden need)....his designs are divergent...but Audi's appear to me to be compromised. The A4 is a disaster.

The nuvolari is where I would like car design today...absent the cost considerations of the gullwing doors and the mid-engine...which I believe will become common in 2010 sport cars...for now we will have to deal with truncation. instead what we need is the purity of flattened 's curves'...i.e. nuvolari<ul><li><a href="http://www.topgear.com/content/features/stories/bangle/01/">http://www.topgear.com/content/features/stories/bangle/01/</a</li></ul>

Default WOW!!! Bangle has some serious denial issues!

From your TopGear article:
He's (Bangle) certainly got the self-belief to carry it off. I put it to Chris that most people don't like the way his cars look. "No, most people do", he grinned. "They just won't admit it".

Your reply was great, and I agree with you.
