Sound system upgrade?

Re: Sound system upgrade?
Well, you have an amp, the tiny bose one.
Really best to do a total upgrade if you're serious about sound, which is admittedly a bit harder in a roadster than my coupe. You might want to do some searches here.
One of the first things I did with my car was to rip out my $1000 bose "upgrade" that I had no choice in ordering.
Cheers,
Rich

hear! hear!
If you're serious about sound, take out the so-called Bose (Boese!) upgrade and put in real stereo equipment. I love the Focale speakers we had installed. The bass response is good enough that I don't need a subwoofer. I kept the head unit--nothing wrong with that, except it isn't very ergonomic.

right....
You can keep the headunit, it's not bose specific, but get some proper amps and speakers. If you like bass like I do, no 6.5 speaker's gonna do it for you. I have MB Quart Q's which have quite decent midbass, but a sub is absolutely required for real deep bass. You'll love the results, but make sure you find a quality installer, you might need to shop around a bit.

Re: stock head unit
Not sure on the RCA's, mine's in storage, I'll look next time unless someone else can answer that. Jeff Bipes' pages have some good ideas. Follow the link.
Hope that helps,

Re: stock head unit
Thanks for the link. Those pages are pretty informative. It looks like he had to wire in RCA connectors to the rear line level outputs that go from the head unit to the stock subwoofer amplifier. So much for fader control. RCA outputs on an OEM deck is probably asking too much.
Is it true that the head units on the newer models are tied into the ECU/security system somehow and the ECU complains if the stock deck is removed? I think I read that on here. I'll have to do a search.

Here, you want these two links, courtesy of John P..
These two should help out a lot, at least something to give to your stereo installler if you're not feeling adventurous : )
