Default Sound System Upgrade

Was looking into upgrading the BOSE sound system in my 01 Coupe so I searched the forum for some info. I wanted to replace the amp and all speakers. Noticed that the major issue with doing this is that the BOSE system is a 2 ohm system and that most aftermarket car components are 4 ohm.

However, I found some amps that had specs for 4 channels at 2ohms and some 6.5 speakers that were listed at 2ohms. Will these components work or am I missing something else? Too, if they do work would it be as simple as taking out the old components and puting in the new ones i.e. no new wireing

Thanks for the info...

Default Re: Sound System Upgrade

If you are replacing the amp how many ohms the old system is becomes irrelevant. Its the amp that dictates the omh'age. Keep us posted on how your new system sounds.

Default Wiring for the amp?

How hard will it be to put in the amp? Is the OEM hard wired in or does it have removable connections?

Default You'll need the metra harness to go from Aftermarket H.U. to OEM bose

That said, this is my wiring diagram for aftermarket H.U.

Default Shouldn't be too hard...

The amp is located behind the paneling on the passenger side rear seat. There are OEM connectors for all the wiring in/out of the amp. I spliced into the line in when hooking up my BassLink sub. There is not a lot of room in that area to place a new amp...you'd be better off extending the wiring to the trunk area. Have you checked the Car Audio forum? I used them when I was connecting my sub.

Default Another option.....

I could just replace speakers with the 2ohm ones I found and then add the BassLink. Do you guys think there would be a big difference in sound quality by replacing the amp when you keep the OEM HU?
How does the BassLink sound?

Default Depends what you're shooting for...

The BassLink gave me the bass I was missing from the OEM setup. Does it hit hard enough to break glass...no. But it does dramatically improve the low end. You can feel the bass within the vehicle, but your neightbors will not. If that is what you're after, then you'll probably need your own amp/sub setup.

The basslink was very easy to connect. Spliced into the line out from the HU at the amp, and brought power back from the battery. The Basslink has its own power switch when it detects signal from the line in.

I picked a Basslink up on ebay for less than retail.
