Default Spec 2+ clutch and Aluminum Flywheel Impressions>>>

Well, If you like the sound of marbles in your transmission....you will love this set-up! With the clutch depressed: no noise. Clutch out idling: loud rattling! When you're slowing down and down shift: forget it! the rattling is unreal.

I was going to leave the OEM flywheel in but it was in real bad shape so I said "what the heck" I'll spend an extra few bucks on another performance mod. Bad Idea!

I am truly shocked that Spec and the other companies don't make it very clear that the aluminum flywheel is strictly for the track or you are going to have to live with the extreme noise.

Spec says that if you use heavier weight trans fluid it should quite it down a bit. Gee, I can't wait. I'll go form the sound of marbles to pebbles in my tranny.....Sweet!

Default The SPEC 2+ steel single mass flywheel has quieted down on my car.

For the first few hundred miles it was pretty bad, now it's bearable, but doesn't sound "normal" by any means.

Let me know if you have any trouble shifting gears (hard shifting up or down).

Default Sorry for your problem, but a good search prior to buying would have told you....

that lightweight flywheels are going to be noisy and you'll get alot of chatter. As a mechanical engineer I pretty well understand the rotating mass thing and saving a few lousy pounds was clearly not worth it for me when I replaced my clutch. Sorry for your problem.

Default Only have 150miles on the clutch, but no problems shifting at low RPM's>>

What bugs me the most is while deaccelerating and down shifting. The rattling is really bad.

I might try a heavier weight gear lube..did you hear that it would help??

even the steel one sounds bad? i suppose this is why a dual mass is needed.

Default yep....hence my choice on that>>>>

while the dual mass probably gives up a bit of performance, the livability factor is high...my car sounds and feels (for the most part on feel) stock. The biggest difference is the Spec grabs quick...not a problem, more of just getting used to it.

It is mostly the NVH coming from the 1.8t....
