When I moved there, I lived on the west outskirts of Knoxville(Cedar Bluff area). I eventually bought a house in Seymour-about halfway between Knoxville and Pigeon Forge on Hwy 411.
To get to the road I was writing about, probably the most scenic route(which is also fun), go towards Knoxville, then get off on the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg exit. When you get into Pigeon Forge, make a right on Hwy 321. This will take you into Townsend. Keep following rte 321 til you see a sign for Foothills Parkway and take it Southwest until it ends. It will end at route 129, make a left. You will cross the NC border. At this point, I don't remember exactly, but I believe you take NC rte. 28. Just look for signs for Fontana Village/Lake. This road is what's better known as "The Dragon".

Let me know if you end up doing this trip, words just can't describe what a roller-coaster ride this road is.<p>Jason Dale

Default More NC/GA roads...

J Griff from Atlanta (forum poster) recommended several routes to us and mixed and matched, sometimes going west to go east, but it was really fun. Contact J. for more road info. He's frequently on forum.

I was chatting with your missus on forum a week or so ago and found we've got a long list of Audi product in common. I'm moving out of my 95/A6 -5 speed and into a 2.7TQ in early '01. How do you like it? I drove a 4.2/A6 a couple weeks ago and it kicks butt.

Default Road Trip Route Test

Yes, I sacrificed for the betterment of humankind. Translation: I had some fun. I drove half the route I was looking at. I stopped looking for turn-offs and missed the turn to head back North around the lake. So, I ended doing 50% of the trip on major state routes (Route 15-501). Oh well. The first half was pretty much a success. About half way down one small back road, it switched to dirt. Oh well. I kept going (slowly) and came out on a great road which made up for it.

I figure the whole route could be done in two hours or less.

I didn't go over 70mph the whole way since the route was new.

I'm working on the map with a highlighted route.
