Springtime, simple green diluted and brushes. One larger brush for big area's and a toothbrush for the tough stuff...i then wipe everything down with a good sponge. Same procedure for the engine bay...hose it all off....go back and redo the tough spots.
Summertime...do it again IF it needs it...and apply a decent plastic "polish" to the areas that need it..fender wells etc......i like meguires product the best.
Fall...repeat spring cleanup process.....
The key is really the details...do not be afraid of using enough simple green, and work in reachable areas...i find the sponge works nicely....
You get dirty, and wet...but the end result is worth it IMO....

but when i know its like that i take it to the car wash in the winter. We have a brushless wash, where there are actually people using wool mits on the car. I order the undercarriage wash too...and try to do it at least once every other week in the bad weather and once a month otherwise....
Getting the pitting off is tough...i use metal polish from Griot's garage for the tough stuff...that works well!
