Default Steve S: Car is running lean (.38V) according to digital gauge

Indication of a bad MAF or o2 sensor? Anything to worry about? Thanks.

Default Sometimes You can't tell from an A/F gauge...>>

in normal driving as the ECU cycles back and forth from lean to rich rapidly in closed loop (which is most of the time). The gauge my not be refreshing fast enough. Is it a dedicated A/F or just a voltmeter? Does it go rich on full throttle? (Open loop, more than .5V)??. Do you have a VAG Joe? log block 217 (Lambda) while running. It should be at 1 with dips below to .85 or so on throttle run up. Look at block 32 also(Car can be stationary) If Partial throttle on #32 is higher than +10% it's leaner than it should...Usually points to a MAF....
What kind of gauge?

Lemme know!

Steve, It's a Nordskog a/f gauge. Pretty cool looking with the red digital numbers in my powder coated gauge pak. Got the idea from WakkTT..hehe. I need pix of my setup!!!! I also need to reinstall the vag software on my laptop and get the true reading. I should have known better and purchased the wide-band. Of course mucho-dinero!!!

Default Wide band?.....>

That needs a special wideband 02 sensor for correct operation....YOu'll need to weld in a bung for one...Check it with the VAG...I suspect it's the mismatched gauge!

Default Re: Wide band?.....>

Yea, I've read about all the work required for that (Not for me!!). So, Are you saying this type of gauge may not work in my configuration? I dont understand what you mean by 'mismatched' gauge.

Default Well, a Wideband gauge .....>

Registers to 5 volts from a corresponding Wideband 02 sensor. I don't know if the scaling is correct when working with a 1 volt conventional 02 sensor....

Any Muffler shop can weld a bung in really easily...
