everyone is entitled to their opinion...
but i don't think the comparison is as riddiculous as you make it out to be. mercedes have always been more expensive than their competitors with similar performance. some of the difference can be attributed to original styling and innovative electronics. but a portion of the price pays for having the name mercedes.
the lexus ls sedan beat the s-class, 7 series and a8 in a car and driver comparison test while costing 10k less than any of the competitors. while lexus may not have the most innovative styling, they do make cars that are competitive with the offering from germany for less money.
you are entitled to view them as wannabees, but their share of the luxury car market continues to grow while mercedes' share declines.

The first TT had over 12,000 miles on it before it met with an accident. I had an IS300 and I only put about 4,000 miles on it in the 6 months that I owned it. The Lexus belongs to my mom, who has been a loyal Lexus owner since Lexus first opened up.
