Default Definately the battery, but -->

if you want a new cluster for some other reason the dealer will replace it for you once they see the lazy tach symptom. Only do this under warranty of course! They'd rather replace an $800 item in 2 hours rather than a $100 one in 10 minutes. Go figure!

Other things will start to happen too... like the info display will turn bright red for a few seconds. It's all battery related. I had to show the dealer here that their changed cluster failed again in one day and made them replace the battery under warranty. There is a way to force a low bus 30 DTC and that was the ticket.
