STRESS CRACK IN FRONT WINDSHIELD, ANYONE ELSE WITH THIS PROBLEM???
Just got in to drive my new 01 tt 225 rq for the fifth time (only 500 miles on car)and noticed the front windshield was cracked. Crack starts dead center at the top behind rear view mirror. Goes down 6 inches and hangs a hard left and goes another 8 inches. I was not struck by a rock. No points of impact or chips in glass. Seems like a manufacture defect. Anyone else with this problem? Think this will be covered under warranty? o

same here, get to dealer quickly... their instructions are that if
running a pen along the crack results in the pen hitting a chip, then it is probably not a stress fracture and hence not warrantied. However a crack can break of lil chips all by itself in time.... so get it in to have the service manager do his thing before any chipping occurs.

Yes. 4 windsheilds in two TTs. Long response.
This is a known defect by AoA so don't let the dealer push you around.
Cause is still undetermined. This defect started with the first TTs off the production line. Audi thought the cause was due to the windsheild being installed at the beginning of the production line and that the stress of going through the production line was causing the windsheilds to crack. Audi changed the production line in the first quarter of 2001. The windshield is now the last thing to be installed. Apparently, this change has not solved the problem.
There some speculation about this defect- it could be excessive body flex placing pressure on the windshield, the adhesive formulation is inadeqaute, the frames are slightly out of alignment (.75 cm is enough to cause this)or defective glass.
