Default Strut reassembly questions . . . help greatly appreciated :)

1. The PSS9 front struts require the reuse of the OEM rubber bushing that is found at the top of the oem strut. That bushing has a nut that holds it on, the bearings it sits on, and another thin metal plate beneath that that sits on the spring. Since the billstein has its own top spring plate (#2 in picture below), do I need to use the oem plate? Without using that plate, the bushing does not spin freely like it did on the oem strut.

2. The permissible adjustment range for the PSS9 strut is 200 to 225mm. This measurement is supposed to be taken between the "top edge of spring seat down to the center of bottom mounting screw". That description doesn't match up with the diagram labels above. Someone care to point out the landmarks?

3. Bentley says "Before inserting suspension strut, coat strut mounting (arrows) with installation lubricant G 294 421 A1" - Do I need to get this from Audi, or is there a generic lube that I can use? Sean . . . don't say it

thanks for the help!

Default answers . . .

here you go Phil . . . then I am heading to sleep.

1. Don't re-use the stock piece, just use what came with the PSS9's. You only need the bearing(rubber bushing) and nut to lock it down.

2. I don't recall the landmarks but when we did it, we just adjusted them to about where we thought it was "right" then adjusted once the car was on the ground. I wouldn't worry too much about this.

3. You can use ANY grease. You can use automotive grease, vaseline, WD-40(not a real lube), silicone spray . . . etc. It is just something to make the damper slide into the strut carrier easier.

Anything else and I will check when I get up in 6 hours. Good luck and hope it helped.

Default NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :)

Questions are good. They feed the brain

Okay, so our man in utah can build a lambo from the ground up in less time than it takes me to install this freakin suspension, but I'm not trying to break any speed records here thank goodness!
