Default Summer Tire Time!!

Spring is coming and the Goodyear Eagles oon my 2000 Audi TT FWD are goners. Thinking about the Michelin PSS's, but like the looks of the Toyo Proxes R1R, the BF Goodrich g-Force Rival, the Dunlop Direzza Z11. Anyone tried any of these?

Default The August issue of Car & Driver did a performance tire assessment with Tire Rack

They rated the Michelen Pilot Super Sports the best overall street tire, scoring well above the second place tire. However, if you are into competitive autocross or track events and want a street tire, there are better tires in the group for pure dry track performance. Go to the C&D or Tire Rack site for more info.

Just in case anyone is interested, I went with the Michelins. They are better in every way than my Eagle F1's - dry, wet, noise. Except looks...

i also have the eagle gt and they are noisy. switching to continental extreme dw for a quieter and softer ride. dws rated second to the pricier michelins. the only draw back is the softer sidewall. then again, i don't drive like a formula 1 racer.

Default I bought the ContiExtreme DW prior to the C&D test. C&D link inside

My interpretation of the C&D tests is that the Conti's rate a best bang for the buck, particularly if ride comfort is high on your priority list. They were indeed very quiet, even with low tread. Any tire with a simple repetitive pattern like the Goodyears will get very noisy as they wear. Note that some of the C&D tested tires are true sumer-only tires that will get "cold cracking" damage if even exposed to low temps. That is, you can not even store them in an unheated garage during cold winters.
