Default Suspension install and broken spring?

So I finally installed a set of eibach springs to go along with my bilstein sport shocks. The job was so much easier the second time around especially with the "strut spreader tool" (you really should not consider doing the job without it)

When taking off the drivers side rear spring I discovered that it was broken, a small section of the coil at the base was left sitting there when I took the spring out. This is something that I never noticed, never made any noise that I knew of and could not feel it. Is this a common problem?

Well after driving on the new springs a little I love them! the car feels great, not harsh at all, for anyone looking for something a little sportier than stock its a great way to go.
