Default Synthetic Oil Now Standard For Oil Changes??

My dealer mentioned something that caught my attention when I picked up my TTR. He said the service intervals had been pushed to 5000, 10,000, 20,000, 30,000, etc. and that they would use synthetic oil in all changes.

Is this a standard Audi thing or just my dealer (Int'l Autos in Milwaukee)? Should I be worried about 10,000 miles between oil changes??
