Default Tach starts at 3000 RPM? STFA but couldn't find much.

I got home this weekend and drove the car for the first time in a month. As I am pulling out of the driveway I notice the tach is showing 4000 RPM and I'm barely rolling. Looks like something went gunny bag. Is this something that BBA Reman can fix?

Default happened to me 6 months ago, then "went away" and hasn't come back... >

Default

Maybe mine will do the same thing... otherwise I'll just pretend I'm driving in F1.

Default yeah - if mine hadn't fixed itself in a day I'd have had to do something - tach's essential >

drove me crazy trying to shift, even though I've got a pretty good ear.

Could be a sign of your alternator going south

Default And/or check your battery resting voltages...>>

Low Voltage = funky things happening electrically (including the "sticky" tach syndrome)

Default I hadn't thought of that possiblitity. But it is a very plausible answer.

I'll have to check that. I've got a 3 yr old Optima in there. My multimeter doesn't read that precisely but it's hovering between 12 and 13 V, can't tell if it is lower than 12.5 or not. Guess it's time to pull the battery and get it checked out.

Thanks Steve & Qu!cksilva

Default Tach get its signal from the alternator when it comes to RPMS

jumpy needle or dead needle is a good indicator that its dying.

Needle isn't jumpy or dead, just now 3000 RPM is the new 0.
