Default Temp gauge issue.. part 2.... any thoughts?

As stated last week, the car goes in this Monday for a timing belt and water pump, with metal impeller! The timing couldn't have been better as the temp gauge had been reading normal and then last week, it started to creep toward the right: midway between the normal reading and the next hash mark. Tuesday of this week, it migrated from the midway point to the hash mark straight on, and yesterday just a bit past it. As of now, I'm doing real limited driving with it and will take the train in to NYC daily for Thursday and Friday instead of driving it. My issue..... is that yesterday on the way home, as I went around a fairly good sized left hand off-ramp at speed, I noticed that the temp gauge immediately dropped from just past that hash mark back to the normal reading!!! Do I have some sort of clog? It was odd that going around the corner like that caused it to go back to normal...... level looks good an dI plan to check it further today and add some new coolant... any ideas??? Will the new pump (and a collant flush) solve this dilemma? THANKS!!

Default Try the onboard>>>

diag setting and see what the temp reads...sounds like a cluster problem to me.

Do I need a VAG to check that?

Default Nope....here is what you do>>>>

hold down the recirculating button and the UP arrow at the same time. You will notice that the display will get brighter and now read 1C.

Use the temp dial, to select the correct setting...which is 51C. Once that is selected, press the recirculating button again.

You should now read a temp there. If the car is running normal, it will read 90 deg Cel. You can leave it in this mode as long as you like, but it resets once the ignition is off.

My cluster is shot...and have yet to replace it, and use this all the time...peace of mind.

Default Use the block 49 ... block 51 says always 90 for me even though my car is running about 78-82.c

I just changed to green temp. sensor, and no help, probably my thermostat leaks.

Is there a link to more "backdoor" codes like this one?
