Default there are a few things you should take into account...

1. 'sports' cars don't tend to have armrests.
2. mid-engined cars almost always make more (and sometimes better) noise -- for obvious reasons.
3. turbo motors are quieter than n/a motors. nature of the beast.
4. the audi tranny feel is great, imo. other than porsches costing considerably more, i haven't driven anything that feels as good to me. you really like the feel of the boxster's better?

Default Comments

STOCK - read that word nimwits! - STOCK the Boxster S is faster in a straight line, in curves and under braking. It handles better, sounds better.

You can make a TTR do all of those things except sound as good as a flat 6, and it will cost you less money to do so than a Boxster S. The only problem you face is that you will void your warranty.

The TTR is cheaper, but better made inside, seems more reliable (Boxster owners dread these 3 letters RMS), costs less to service (how about $0?) and less to insure.

If speed is the issue get an out of warranty TTR and ask these guys all the things you can do to make it special. If sound is the issue buy the Boxster or find a good condition 993 cabrio, or a 'Vette.

In the end you have a free choice of what you want to buy and can afford. People here are going to be hostile to your comments for a number of reasons, so understand that their comments are less about you than they are about them and what they believe in.

Default partly true - a 225 hp boxster vs. a 225 hp TT is not so certain a win /loss

Many people are responding based on the emotional love of their cars. Fact is - we all had a boxster TT choice (except for those who couldn't afford it) - and we chose the TT for our own reasons.

What some respond to are innacurate statements about handling, engine power, etc. For example.... there are many conditions on which a stock TT could beat a stock porsche. Like - on an icy road in new england.

For example a TT with 225hp outhorses the boxster at 217 hp. The 2003 boxster does 225 hp - or equal. Being a lighter car will help.

Default Actually the TTq shares less that 15% of the parts of other MKIV platform cars

and this is related more to electronics and engine than anything else. Suspension design and application, wheelbase, brakes, and pretty much everything else is different. Even the FWD TT Coupe only shared 20% of parts in common. I've owned 4 VW's including a MKI, MKIII and MKIV, and I can tell you straight faced that the other MKIV platform cars can't hold a candle to the TT. The steering is different (2.5 lock to lock on TT 3.0 lock to lock on all other MKIV cars) in terms of accuracy and feel, brake feel is different - clutch is also different (although the 24V VR6 cars have the new 240mm clutch the TTQ's have been running since inception. There's more difference in the chassis and parts between a Golf 1.8T GTI and a TT than there is between a B5 1.8T A4 and a B5 S4.

Default Splitting hairs

The differences come between handling, traction, and grip.

Handling = Boxster (It's all about balance)

Traction = TTQ (Can't beat quattro on anything other than perfect dry roads)

Grip = Michelin Pilot Sports (or your choice)
