I looked at my headlights for the first time with the lights on and noticed that both have crystals. They are only visible when the lights are on so it not that big a deal. I was thinking that because I didn't get xenons I might be able to pop the bulb out and clean them off. Has anyone tried this?

I have a small amount of the "crystals" myself, it's really just fine dust. I'm going to try to clean them out myself this summer, going to try to come in from the high beam bulb socket with a rag on a semi-flexible rod (<--- actually bicycle brake housing). I had to do this with my Isuzu headlamps once when a bulb exploded, it worked then.
