Are there a lot of TT-180 owners who chipped instead of opting for the TT-225 version? (curious)

Yup - but my original plan was to go Stage III so ....
225 wasn't really worth the money at the time. I was also unaware at the time that the K04 on the TT wasn't the same as that available as an upgrade on the A4 and other 1.8T's and was capable of over 240hp with a chip and exhaust. If i'd have known that I MAY have opted for the 225.

had no option when I got mine... no roadster or 225
plan to go Stage III unless I opt for a 225 in the next 2 years. Either way Stage III will go in whatever version I have.

I thought about it, but
a chipped 225 is a lot faster then a chipped 180.. Sure with the money you save by getting a 180 instead of a 225 you can buy a stage 3 kit from APR, but that isn't enough for me.. I would really like to get a stage 3 kit for a 225.. Besides the chip isn't a major mod like a stage 3 kit so if your worried about your warranty Id say the 225 is a better option.. I mean, at least with the chip you can pop it out, and bring the car to the dealership.. what are you going to do with a stage 3 kit?

How I look at it is that MOST people will not do stage III
until they are out of warrenty, then it does not matter. The dealership will work on the car with or without mods when you are out of warrenty. The two cars are very similar, and I think they can both be made almost identical for about the same money. In both cars you will have to change out the same parts for stage III- just depends how far you want to go. I think both cars are able to do 350hp and be stable.

Yes.
In Australia 180 is fwd only, 225 is quattro only.
Price is A$69,000 for fwd compared to A$82,000 for quattro. US$1=A$0.56. Cost of chip and a few other items, exhaust, springs, DV, etc. around $2,500. Max speed on steet is 30mph, on open road 60mph, strictly enforced to within 2mph with cameras.(big brother). Not worth the extra money to me.
Although I would have liked the quattro am rarely unhappy in my car.
Primary reason for buying TT is looks and style anyway so really got all of that.
