Default Is there a reason why our cars sound like a diesal engine when we start it up?

I'm assuming its in the TT story book, which I don't have yet.

Does the other 1.8t(bud,A4,etc) sound the same during startup?

I believe an auxiliary air pump is triggered
at startup to "mix" the exhaust gasses with
fresh air until the cats warm up and do their
job. Both my TT and A4 sound like this for
about 30 seconds at startup. Don't know if the
A4 has the pump, but sounds similar.

Well, my car seems to have a high pitch ratteling noise from under the car (near the mid-pipe), and the tach sometimes doesn't work for about 5 sec.

There's a small diesel engine that starts first, then it starts the gas motor :-)

It's called a "pony motor", isn't it?
