Think I might have a bad MAF but I have two questions.

First, my car is an '02 with just over 10k on it. Can the MAF be bad already?
Second, I know I can unplug the MAF and drive to really find out if that's the problem. I've also read that doing that will throw a CEL though. Will the CEL go away when I plug the MAF back in?
