Default For those with an ETKA cd that want to get it working under Win2K or WinXP . . .

Here are the instructions:

1) do the install
2) copy everything except the ini files from the et_prog.nt4 directory to
the et_prog directory on the disk
3) copy lexhdl5.dll from the et_prog.w95 directory on the cd
4) you will not be able to print from win 2k. there is no work-around for
this.

I just did this and in two seconds I was running under XP. Emil sent this to me, but he had not tried it yet.

Thanks Emil.

Default

Did you try to run the CD in XP compatibility mode?

Default yes, nothing worked. This is what worked and it worked perfectly.

The problem is the ETKA cd does not recognize any OS after Win95, even though it comes with the files for them. You just need to manually finish the install.

Default My 'fun' WinXP eXPerience lately...

I have built two XP machines... yeah, tons of experience, I know. My wife's computer went perfectly. She's running XP Home and Office XP Standard. I'm breathing a sigh of relief that she doesn't have any pain.

My computer, on the other hand, has not cooperated. I found out that my DVD drive is most like out of alignment (if that happens nowadays). I've sent it back under warranty. With a new DVD drive though I cannot get Office XP Pro or Standard to install on my Win XP Pro harddrive! I've even built a brand new drive that only has the base Windows XP Pro (no patches or anything else installed) just to figure this out.

I've spent 6 hours on this so far now. Microsoft has spent 4 of those hours with me on my phone! They are stumped. Monday I start into it with their research team.

I'm still very happy with Win XP. The only problem I'm having is with suspending (laptop). Hopefully that will get resolved when all this gets resolved.

Fun, fun.

Default I just installed WinXP on my laptop on Thursday and it's going swimingly.

My only suspension problem comes when I install Quicken 2000. Then I can't suspend the computer because it attaches to a COM port driver and won't release it like it's supposed to when it gets a standby request. My solution? Uninstall Quicken.

Default Hmm. I didn't experience the problem until AFTER I installed Quicken!

I guess they will have a new patch to release eventually. :-)

Default Same here. I just said it wrong. Quicken sucks because they adhere to very few..

...Windows standards. I may switch to Money.
