For those who track their cars, what insurance do you have and do they cover you for track based

not a timed, competitive event. I have even seen instances where the driving school (DE) provided a "completion certificate" so that the Insurance could give a discount similar to when you take defensive driving.
Of course, there is a good chance that after one claim they will drop you. Just never know, and if you ask about this they will likely tell you there is no coverage for DE's.
I have seen instances where people claim a "single car accident" that caused some damage. Basically lost control and ran off the road causing damage to XX parts. This is basically a true statement if you just ran off the track. It is rare for cars to collide at DE's.
I've been going to DE's for 5 years and had my share of "off track excursions"...but none of them required insurance claims. Just be careful and don't push too hard.
Just have to read your Insurance docs to find out for sure.

The guy I talked to thought a DE would not be a problem. He even put into my file that he verified that the DE would be fine (that may or may not be a good thing). But I know I'm covered at least until the first time I screw up.
Next I need to convivne them this makes me a better driver and should count towards a discount.

I've never had a track event claim, but other peoople have had claims covered by them. The have a good rep in the enthusiast community. As mentioned elsewheres, THERE CAN BE NO TIMING OR COMPETITION.
American Collector's Insurance covers DE only. Lots of people use them. They cover purely the on track activity. It's a good option b/c you wouldn't have to tap into your regular insurance. I don't use it b/c I time trial about 1/2 the time. For a 35k car they'd ask $525 in annual premium.
