Default The problem with inspection...>

is that it's worthless except in extreme wear circumstances. Catastophic failure is usually caused by either the tensioner or Waterpump which are basically uninspectable...

Default I had a whirring noise coming from the passenger side of my car...

had the dealer look at it and they shrugged it off as "regular timing belt noise".

After I replaced my tbelt/water pump at 61K, the noise was gone.

Audi is so generous with their free inspections.

Default That was my first thought as regarding inspection

will be interesting to see if AoA actually ponies up for TB related repairs of someone who gets inspected as required and has a failure before 105K.

Default What's "preventative TB failure"?

did you have a failure or not? Or you, like most of us, have already replaced the TB prior to the 105K interval?

Regardless, the notice says essentially, if you have the TB inspected at your next scheduled maintenance interval, AoA will extend your warranty for TB and related damage to 105K regardless of the overall vehicle warranty. If you already had damage as a result of a TB failure you can submit a claim for reimbursement.

Crap - the "whirring noise" was probably the tensioner getting ready to go!

Default Mixed Blessing

If this had happened 18 months ago, before I changed my belt and tensioner and water pump, I might have been tempted to leave it alone and let Audi take the risk. Problem is that if it failed, I would still have a damaged but hopefully repaired engine. Whole thing could have been avoided with a 70000 mile service interval. Might have cost them a few sales, but Honda seems to do OK.
