I am about 7,000miles from 60K, and that sounds like a pretty good time to replace the timing belt, etc.
Are there any aftermarket options for these parts- perhaps a part that might last longer then the OEM ones? Also with the ECS kit, does that include everything I should need (plus I would get the water pump at the same time)?
"Kit includes the following parts:
-OEM timing belt made by Continental
-OEM tensioner Roller made by Ruville in Germany
-OEM tensioner assembly made by Ruville in Germany
-OEM Idler roller (comes on the tensioner assembly)"
How are their prices? $169.95 for the Timing Belt Kit, and $49.95 for the water pump.
ECS also sells a Timing Chain- is that something that should also be replaced?
Finally ECS talks about the accessory drive belt, what is involved with that replacement?
Basically I would like to bring my mechanic the parts and say, here ya go, see you tomorrow, and I don't want to worry about any of these catastrophic belt failures for another 60K miles. They guys is awesome, really knows his stuff, been working on Audi's for about 20 years straight. Left my dealership and started his own shop, where he ONLY works on Audi's. Finally what should I expect hour wise for labor for this- 5 hours? 8 hours?

...put my self through school working at a vw/Audi shop..... From what I have figured out won't be too bad at all..... Look like removing all the accessories and hoses to get at the timing components is the time consuming part... but I will try to do my best at taking some shots of how stuff goes... I don't see it being too bad... just tight on space... Can't be as bad as the t-belt on my v-6 Toyota... that thing was crazy....

The 'timing-chain' as you call it, is the chain that connects both of the camshafts (inlet and outlet side) and normally doesn't have to be replaced anytime soon..
