Timing belt settlement mail received yesterday... I was dumbstruck.

Of course Audi wins......>>
Inspection will, of course, show you "need" to replace the belt, therefore soliciting additional revenue for the service dept that they previously blew off..They'll scare ya by telling you this "supposed" extended warranty will be void if you don't follow their recommendation..
The lawyers and Audi BOTH win...I'm hard pressed to see where the owner comes out on the positive side of this..

the winners here are the folks that had catastrophic failures >>>
and still own the cars....you will be reimbursed for this costs according to the document i got...
So 4k-5k$ or whatever you were charged will be recouped....but i wonder how many actually still have those cars....will be interesting for sure..

That sums it up very well....
...it will be interesting if Audi diagnoses ANY belts and tensioners as not needing replacement at 40k or 80k (on the customer's $). I suppose they'd be on the hook if a belt failed before 105k, if the 40K & 80k inspections said no replacement was necessary.
They must have their own insurance policy to cover their *** in that case. So the insurance companies win too, along with the lawyers. hahaha! :-|

Who will take a bet that anyone will make it to 105 (or 120)K without the recommendation that the TB
be changed? Audi has learned from Honda and has turned a defect into a service issue. Most if not all TB failures have been out of warranty, costing audi nothing but good will. So now audi will generously inspect my timing belt while I am in for a scheduled and probably expensive service, and probably recommend I replace it at my cost before it breaks at its normally scheduled replacement period.
So how much is it going to cost me to get my timing belt to 120K (01 model) or 105K? Audi will say no more as I should have been getting regular service at a dealer, but the extra cost will probably be an early timing belt change.
Audi should really step up to the plate and if it really wants to save money and keep customers, then replace for free ( or prorate the price- maybe no charge at 40K, 50% at 80K, and full price at normal schedule) the TBs of cars that on inspection are deemed to premature failure. Making everyone pay for their engineering or maintenance schedule errors just sucks.

This is extremely interesting. However, I cannot see page 2 or the enclosures - could you tell me how to find a copy of the whole letter?
Many thanks for your help.
