Default Timing belt and water pump for 180 version>>

so I have been looking into this from different dealers. I have been given quotes for the belt and water pump around $1,400- $1,200. Now I try for another quote and this dealer tells me that the water pump on the 180 version does not need replacing when doing this job. Is this correct that the water pump on the 180 version does not need replacing, only the timing belt??

Default Water pump MUST be replaced. Find a good mechanic.

Your incompetent dealer is ripping you off. Plastic water pump impeller is a known problem.

Default Always replace the water pump...

I just had mine done for ~700 at a tuner shop. The belt was in ok condition, about 1/3 of the WP impeller was missing... Make sure that the new pump has a metal impeller not the OEM plastic.

Default My water pump (plastic impeller) went at 37K, cheap to replace when doing the belt

Also consider the timing belt kit from ECS the water pump in the kit has a metal impeller.

http://www.ecstuning.com</a

Default What is wrong with these dealers? They're sooo stupid telling people these things! I don't.>>

think I've ever heard of so many instances where the dealer just flat out tells people this dumb crap. I mean, they don't even do any research before advising folks on their cars. So dumb!

Default My waterpump on my 180 went just at 60k, so yea, you need to replace

Those are the similar to the quotes I got from NYC dealers...a lot of forum members have gotten it done for less though. Although I'm not sure any of those ppl are in the NYC/NJ area. As for the metal impellar water pump, beware, b/c most dealerships won't allow you to install an aftermarket waterpump. So if you want that included in your service, goto an independent mechanic
